Mixing widths in one line-up is the normal approach and makes the total length shorter than a single-width arrangement. The identity part of KYN550-12 reads position by position: K is metal-clad enclosed switchgear, Y is the withdrawable pattern, N is indoor service, 550 is the design code and 12 is the voltage class. The 550 is also this model’s standard cubicle width — designation and width matching is not a coincidence. A complete order designation carries further positions after it: primary scheme number, operating-mechanism code (D for magnetic, T for spring), cubicle width, rated current and rated breaking current, confirmed cubicle by cubicle at quotation.

Fitting a 4000 A main busbar into a 550 mm standard width rests on splitting the cubicle front from rear. The front section holds the LV, breaker and maintenance compartments; the rear section holds the busbar and cable compartments. Five functional rooms distributed front and rear rather than crowded into one depth is what keeps the width down — the source gives more than 30% floor-area saving against a conventional KYN28-12 cubicle. Front and rear sections can also be assembled separately, so batch production and site maintenance both work section by section. Four further widths of 600, 650, 800 and 1000 mm are available, taken per cubicle against its actual rated current and device fit-out, and mixing widths within one line-up is normal practice. The cubicle carries five-prevention functions with an electromagnetic door interlock. ETENZ sets the width step and the busbar transition cubicle by cubicle against the circuit schedule and the switchroom drawing.
The primary circuit of a KYN550-12 feeder cubicle runs from the busbar through the upper truck contacts, the circuit breaker, the lower truck contacts, the current transformers and the earthing switch to the cable termination; incomer, bus-tie, metering and auxiliary-transformer cubicles add or remove devices on that basis. The main busbar is rated 4000 A and the distribution busbar 630 to 4000 A in steps, so one line-up can hold a large incomer and a small feeder without sectionalising the busbar or derating it. Circuit count, bus-tie and sectionalising arrangement and spare positions are settled at drawing approval.
KYN550-12 accepts top entry with top exit, bottom entry with bottom exit and mixed arrangements; the direction follows the cable termination type and the routing on site. The roof-mounted busbar bridge carries the inter-panel connection. Because this type mixes widths from 550 to 1000 mm within one line-up, the busbar has to transition continuously between differing widths, and the bridge sections and supports are settled together with the line-up layout. ETENZ fixes cable terminations, busbar connections, inter-panel links and earthing points on the drawings before manufacture, leaving only the connection work on site.
Protection relays, metering devices, CT/VT and auxiliary supplies are installed, wired and checked circuit by circuit in the works, with all secondary signals brought to one terminal strip; the electrical side of the five-prevention interlocking and the electromagnetic door lock is completed at the same time. The LV compartment sits at the top of the front section, so the secondary devices and the terminal strip are grouped there and can be wired from the front. Everything beyond the terminal strip — the upper-level monitoring system, station control and external I/O — sits on the customer side, with interface type and protocol agreed at technical specification stage.

It is this model’s main busbar rating, with distribution busbars also available to 4000 A. The typical places that need it are substation main incomers, large station-service supplies in power plants, and any line-up carrying many circuits on one busbar that should not be sectionalised. Where the busbar current falls short, the alternatives are sectionalising or adding a bus-tie, and both add cubicles and floor area. Send the total line-up load and whether sectionalising is acceptable, and whether 4000 A is a requirement or headroom becomes clear.
From the switchroom civil conditions first, with the electrical layout worked out afterwards. Depths run 1100 to 1650 mm in six steps and heights 2000 to 2300 mm in four. The switchroom depth has to take the cubicle depth plus front operating and maintenance space and the truck withdrawal travel, and the clear height has to take the cubicle plus the busbar bridge and top duct.
