Project Overview

Renewables & Storage

At the Huadian Yancheng Honggang PV project, the 220 kV gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) supplied by Sieyuan Electric stands in a GIS building for the solar substation, delivered as an E-House. ETENZ manufactured the enclosure for Sieyuan Electric on an OEM basis: eight modules were fabricated separately at the factory, delivered to site in Yancheng, Jiangsu, and assembled there into one continuous equipment building of roughly 22 × 11 × 4.5 m. The complete GIS building now stands assembled on its concrete foundation. Inside, the GIS bays form a single line-up that runs across the module boundaries, while the bus ducts pass out through the long wall to the substation's outdoor bushings. Because the enclosure was made in sections, a building large enough for a full 220 kV GIS line-up went up in eight standard lifts instead of one heavy lift of the whole building.

Service Scope

GIS E-House Enclosure Manufacturing and Interface Prefabrication (OEM)

ETENZ carried out the structural detailing and fabrication of all eight modules. That covers the module joints with their sealing and capping; mounting bases and operating and maintenance aisles set out to Sieyuan Electric's GIS layout; wall penetrations for the bus ducts and cable entries; and the installation openings and weather protection for the wall-mounted air conditioners, low-level extract fans, maintenance doors and escape doors. The enclosure was delivered to Sieyuan Electric on an OEM basis.

Engineering & Integration Points

Eight Modules Joined Into One Equipment Hall

Adjacent modules are aligned on their mating faces and drawn together by splice plates that straddle each seam on paired bolts. Outside, an aluminium capping strip closes and seals the joint; inside, the seam is finished by the interior lining panels. Once assembled, the modules open into a single hall: the GIS bays run in one line-up across the modules, and busbar and gas-compartment lengths are set by what the equipment needs.

Module Frames Formed to a Common Datum

All eight module frames are formed in the factory to the same datum, and every module passes dimensional and structural inspection before dispatch. On site, assembling the enclosure comes down to three steps: lifting each module into position, bolting the joints and sealing them with the capping strips.

Bus Duct Penetrations and Outgoing Interfaces

The GIS bus ducts leave the long wall in groups, each through a framed penetration closed with a cover plate and positioned to follow the GIS bay layout. Wall penetrations, cable entries and terminal box locations are all fixed in one pass at the manufacturing stage.

Low-Level Exhaust and Air-Conditioner Openings

SF6 is heavier than air and settles near the floor if it leaks, so the extract fans are mounted low on the outer wall with the air intakes set high, giving a top-down airflow through the hall. Each module has its own air-conditioner opening in the outer wall, with a rain hood above the unit and the condensate line run down the wall.

Delivery Value

All eight modules have reached the Yancheng site and been assembled into a single GIS building on its concrete foundation. The GIS bays stand in one line-up inside, and the bus ducts connect through the wall penetrations to the outdoor bushings.

Project Value

For GIS manufacturers and for the owners and EPC contractors behind renewable step-up substations, this project shows a workable route: a building that holds a full 220 kV GIS line-up is split into eight modules for factory fabrication, then joined on site back into one continuous equipment hall. The equipment maker sets the GIS layout and interface requirements; ETENZ builds the mounting bases, bus duct penetrations, low-level exhaust openings and module joints into the enclosure and delivers it on an OEM basis. The same sectional approach can be tailored to GIS buildings at other voltage classes, and to wider-span equipment buildings where moving the structure in one piece is impractical.
