ETENZ is supplying the BESS enclosure scope for the China Three Gorges high-voltage direct-connected storage project in Haixi, Qinghai, contracted through NR Electric: 72 battery enclosures with their internal structural steelwork. The first unit has passed first-article review and the first batch shipped in late July 2026.
The high-voltage direct-connected storage project China Three Gorges is building in Haixi, Qinghai has moved into enclosure delivery. ETENZ is supplying 72 battery container enclosures and the structural steelwork inside them, contracted through Changzhou Bori Electric Power Automation Equipment Co., Ltd., NR Electric's primary power equipment manufacturing base. The first enclosure passed first-article review in June 2026 and the first batch shipped in late July.
High-voltage direct-connected storage cascades the battery clusters through power units and ties them straight onto the medium-voltage bus, taking the line-frequency step-up transformer out of the chain. For the enclosure that means rows of insulating support pedestals across the floor, insulation between the upper and lower battery frames, equipotential earthing resolved tier by tier, and wider clearances than a conventional storage enclosure needs. The shell moves from being a box that holds equipment to being part of the insulation coordination.
The enclosure on this project is a 12-metre-class non-standard body, wider than the standard container cross-section, so neither the underframe nor the lifting arrangement could follow standard container practice. The base frame is locally reinforced to follow the battery-cluster layout, keeping the floor from deflecting once the enclosure is fully loaded, and lifting is from the bottom with lift points set to suit the internal weight distribution. The battery-cluster steel frames inside are also fabricated and installed by ETENZ, with insulation between the upper and lower tiers and mounting structures for post insulators built into the frame tops.

For high-altitude outdoor service the enclosure is rated IP55 overall, with double gaskets on all four doors plus rain hoods, rodent guards and wind stays; external surfaces follow ISO 12944 C4, halogen-free V-0 rated mineral wool insulation covers all six faces, and structural design life is not less than 25 years. Before the series was released to production one sample enclosure was assembled and taken through first-article review, with factory testing covering the bottom lift, enclosure strength, installation accuracy, welds and fasteners, and weathertightness, and a whole-unit rain test run on the first enclosure.
ETENZ's role on this project is enclosure fabrication and the internal structural steelwork that goes with it: the enclosure body, the battery-cluster steel frames, the distribution boards and earthing bars, and the installation and interface work inside the enclosure for owner-supplied equipment such as post insulators, insulating beams, chillers and air conditioners. Battery modules, power units and energy storage system integration sit with NR Electric.
