The identity part of KYN550-12 reads position by position: K is metal-clad enclosed switchgear, Y is the withdrawable pattern, N is indoor service, 550 is the design code and 12 is the voltage class. The 550 is also this model’s standard cubicle width — designation and width matching is not a coincidence. A complete order designation carries further positions after it: primary scheme number, operating-mechanism code (D for magnetic, T for spring), cubicle width, rated current and rated breaking current, confirmed cubicle by cubicle at quotation.

The typical places that need it are substation main incomers, large station-service supplies in power plants, and any line-up carrying many circuits on one busbar that should not be sectionalised. Where the busbar current falls short, the alternatives are sectionalising or adding a bus-tie, and both add cubicles and floor area. Send the total line-up load and whether sectionalising is acceptable, and whether 4000 A is a requirement or headroom becomes clear.
From the switchroom civil conditions first, with the electrical layout worked out afterwards. Depths run 1100 to 1650 mm in six steps and heights 2000 to 2300 mm in four. The switchroom depth has to take the cubicle depth plus front operating and maintenance space and the truck withdrawal travel, and the clear height has to take the cubicle plus the busbar bridge and top duct.
